Starting The Year Being Thankful

2014 Glitter Sign

It’s that time of year when we talk about resolutions and goals. We share how we succeed or failed in our quest to make a change, stick to a routine, reinvent, redo or restore.  I found an additon  to the New Years tradition which  I started 5 years ago.  When I was in the midst of a change in my life and moving forward with a big endeavor, I decided to start a “Thankful” journal. In my journal over the past years,  I have recorded big and small reasons I’m thankful for each day. I love that I can look back to what I was thankful for 2 years ago and reflect on those moments. There’s even research on why being thankful can be beneficial to our health.

There are times when I skip a day or two of writing and then there are days that I look at my journal and I really don’t want to pick up my pen and write. Those are usually the days that I NEED to write why I’m thankful because I may not be really feeling very thankful that day. The act of pondering and writing down what I’m thankful for usually turns my attitude around pretty quickly. Even admist struggles and challenges there is always something we can appreciate and give thanks for.

I’m looking forward to diving into this fun journal that  my daughter gave me. I’m excited to see what will fill my days and what will fill the pages at night. I encourage you to write down what you’re thankful for. It really is easy and such a positive way to end the day. I hope you have much to be thankful for in 2014!
